Interestingly, using your sterling silver platter is a great way to help keep it in good condition providing you take some measure of care. However, even with regular use, your sterling silver platters need to be cleaned from time to time.

Common cleaning methods include warm water and mild dish soap. use a soft toothbrush or cotton swab. Frequent hand polishing with a soft cloth is also helpful.

You should probably not use a traditional method of cleaning your sterling silver that has been past down from generation to generation.  That is the use of toothpaste to clean your sterling silver jewelry. Toothpaste can contain small abrasive granules that have been know to scratch the jewelry piece. While the oxidation effects of toothpaste and the fine granuals are effective, you may end up with many micro scratches on your sterling silver platter.

Another method that is recommended is the use of commercial cleaners. Just remember that if you are going to use the sterling silver platter during food service these cleaners need to be completely removed from the service to avoid getting people sick.
